Nothing says 'Scottish summer school holidays' quite like grey skies, drizzle and PS Waverley sailing down the Clyde. Here's the Waverley sailing past Clyde View Park and Ferry Village, looking across to Scotstoun and BAE Systems and HMS Glasgow. #Waverley #paddlesteamer #FerryVillage #PSWaver

Ricky's 2002 album "This Is The Life" is one of the finest of his songwriting career and here is one of its standout tracks, "My Girl Going To Town" twinned with another gem of an album track from another of his career highpoints - "Love's Great Fears" (co-written with James Prime) from Deacon Blue's debut album, "Raintown".

Arguably one of the band's finest B-sides, "Long Window To Love" was in some of the early running orders for "When The World Knows Your Name... It Will Call You Angel". First recorded in Edinburgh early in 1988 at some of the early demo sessions for the second album, it was also worked on during the LA sessions with David Kahne. The band have continued to feature the song in their live sets in ...
Ricky Ross, "That's What We Can Do" [Live 19th April 2018]
Просмотров 6526 лет назад
I think I posted the first ever live performance of "That's What We Can Do" on my page 7 years ago when it was played at the Tall Ships event in Greenock, one year before it was released on The Hipsters. The song went on to become an airplay hit on radio and now often occupies the spot which "Dignity" used to have in the setlist - final song in the main part of the set before the encores begin.

From a free concert, come question and answer session held in Martin Hall inside New College, University of Edinburgh. I made my way past a few doors where I used to queue to ask for an extension and then went through in Martin Hall where I think I had some theology lectures 27 years ago... anyway, here is Ricky singing "Here I Am In London Town". If the song is new to you the studio version is...
Larry Norman. "Goodbye Farewell" [Live in May 1995]
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.6 лет назад
One of Larry's finest songs from ANY decade of his career. Written after another heart attack after a Dutch concert meant that he was unable to play in Belfast the following evening. There was no time for promoter Trevor King to cancel the Belfast concert and he persuaded Phil & John to play in Larry's place. On later visits Larry sometimes joked that some of his Belfast fans had really been to...

Why was Larry Norman such a popular live performer? Perhaps only he could escape alive from gigs in Belfast and Londonderry after attempting to perform God Save The Queen with comical results.

I was thinking, why does Geoff keep messing up, but it`s not him. Geoff was my guitar instructor in `67 when I was 8, before they made it.🙂I guess that makes me pretty special here, but no, I can`t be giving my phone# out. Okay bye!

From an old interview where Ricky spoke a bit about some of what Bethlehem's Gate is about: Q:One of the standout tracks on the album was "Bethlehem's Gate" which is another of your songs which has a nativity theme running through it. A: Yeah, well it touches on everything really. It's a bit of an obscure song. Again it's the kind of song I wouldn't necessarily write today. It's funny to look at your own songs and look back. Sometimes because I do the solo show you sit down and you sing this song at the piano and you think, "Its funny, I wouldn't write this lyric now." But that's kind of what happens when you are moving on I suppose. That song jumps around. The first verse is about an event in Loch Lomond where we had a lot of friends and family gathered together and then it moves on to the crucifixion on the wasteland and all that kind of stuff. But what I think really I was trying to get at was an atmosphere about the possibility of things. Again it goes back to where I am with "Calvary", you know, don't overlook optimism because Christmas is the beginning of things. It's great to hone in on that. People often kind of look at the world as it is. You must do it if you are a youth worker I guess. There must be times when you despair. I don't really have any agenda about this. I have a Christian faith that's very real to me but I have no pretensions, that I don't have any desire to proselytise. I meet great people out there who have fantastic humanity and I really do believe that. I know what I feel is right but I have no sense in which I would say that is the thing. But I do think sometimes that the imagery that I understand from that, the beginnings of things, the full possibilities of what human life can be, in that nativity story is a great starting point for that and is a great inspiration.
